A Message From Our Vice President of Ministries
I am excited to introduce you to the Guideposts Comfort Kit program that brings joy and comfort to sick and injured children in hospitals. No one wants to see a child suffer an illness or undergo on-going medical treatment even when we know that it will benefit the child. We want to see children playing, laughing and learning.
Yet we know that kids get sick and need the best medical care they can receive from doctors and nurses. When a child is at their lowest, we come along side the medical team to provide comfort to the heart, a smile to sad face and ease the pain even for a short time. When a child is lifted up—so too is the family.
A parent recently wrote, “My three year old daughter was so excited to receive the Comfort Kit. She loved the plush star, bracelet, and squeeze ball. In fact, she took all of the pieces into surgery with her. Thank you!!!” Pam
Actor and philanthropist Paul Newman once said, “A need is an opportunity to make a difference.” In addition to our prayers, giving a Comfort Kit is a tangible way to make a difference--to bring joy to a sick child. It is our opportunity to ensure that a child never feels alone in a hospital in their time of need.
I invite you to join us to help and touch the lives of thousands of children across the nation. Together we will continue to impact the lives of sick kids and their families with the gift of hope.
Rev. Pablo R. Diaz, D.Min.
To provide comfort and joy to sick and injured children in hospitals
Our vision is to expand hospital partnerships to ensure that every child requiring medical care receives a Comfort Kit that is lovingly provided by a caring community.
Comfort Kit Program
It’s hard enough for some adults to go to the hospital, but for a sick child it can be very frightening. Even though caring doctors and nurses do everything they can to make a child’s stay comfortable, living with an illness or injury can be a lonely, scary experience. And that’s why Guideposts Outreach created the Comfort Kit - a small box with a huge impact. Tested extensively and proven effective, this unique kit enables sick or injured kids ages 5 to 10 feel less frightened and anxious about their surroundings and medical treatments. “Sparkle” the caring star pillow for holding close to the heart, a “My Special Care Journal” for expressing hopes and concerns, and an “I’m special” bracelet are just a few items contained in the kit that helps bring joy, hope and comfort to the one’s we love the most. Guideposts Outreach makes these kits available FREE to hospitals across the country.
In the six years the program has been in existence, Comfort Kits has reached more than 90,000 sick and injured children across 250 hospitals in 43 states. With your help, we can reach children in their greatest moments of need. We can let them know that someone loves them—and that God in heaven loves them most of all.
When Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and his wife Ruth Stafford Peale co-founded Guideposts in 1945, they envisioned an organization that would help people from all walks of life achieve their maximum personal and spiritual potential. The Peale legacy continues powerfully today in our vision for the future, which is to offer people products and services that inspire, encourage, and uplift.
